The Houston Rockets should blow it up and start over

It has been 4 days since the Rockets collapsed in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals and I still don’t understand why. Since last year after the Warriors defeated the Rockets in the Western Conference Finals, all we heard was “If the Rockets had Chris Paul, they would have won the series and they would have won the finals”. A year later, the Rockets got their chance with a Warriors team with no KD for 6 quarters and what happened?

They collapsed. In a series where Stephen Curry hadn’t played his best basketball, the Rockets failed to take advantage of everything that was put in front of them. In the third quarter of game 5, Kevin Durant left the game with a calf strain and would ultimately be out for game 6. In the 4th quarter, the Rockets stalled and a Kevin Durant-less Warriors team stole a win from the Rockets. In Game 6, Stephen Curry went scoreless in the first half but the score was tied going into halftime. Stephen Curry exploded for 33 points in the second half to lead Golden State to a series win. The Rockets failed once again, so what should happen now? The Rockets should blow it up and here’s why:

  1. The Rockets have no money to gain any type of help.

The Houston Rockets are stuck with an aging Chris Paul and a disappointing Clint Capela on terrible contracts. The starting 5 will be locked up for next year but they are being paid $114 million which is over the salary cap. Last summer, the Rockets paid an aging Chris Paul $160 million over 4 years and it could possibly give Houston trouble to gain more pieces. We saw that the lost of Trevor Ariza to Phoenix last summer hurt their defense and now they could possibly lose bench players because of the money given to Capela and Paul hurts them.

  2. Mike D’Antoni’s system will never win a championship

Even when D’Antoni had 2 time MVP Steve Nash, it still wasn’t enough to win a championship. Mike D’Antoni’s system will NEVER win a championship because iso ball won’t win a 7 game series against the most talented starting lineup ever assembled. We see how the Warriors thrive under a system that involves screens, pin downs, and ball movement because the personnel allows them too. The personnel of Houston is iso only. D’Antoni deserves a lot of blame for the Rockets offense stalling late in games due to the iso style he incorporated.

  3. The West is young and upcoming

The west isn’t getting worse and a lot more teams are coming up. The Denver Nuggets are soon to be on top of the west and we could possibly see a team like the Kings start to make some noise. Golden State will be Golden State but Dallas, Denver, Portland, and a healthy Los Angeles can battle for the 2nd best team in the west.

The Rockets could possibly give it one more run but if the 2019-2020 NBA season ends in defeat at the hands of Golden State or any other team, they should really blow it up. Chris isn’t getting any younger and the team has no money. Blow it up Daryl, it’s over, the window is closed.
